Being Honest About Your Work
What do I mean by that???
Let me explain.
Anyone who’s trying to achieve something — and by that I mean anything — like completing daily to-dos, grinding LeetCode to land a job, writing every single day for their book (even in rough times), making food that actually tastes good — whatever your goal is, it all really comes down to one thing:
👉 Are you being honest with what you're doing?
Let’s take a simple example.
🎯 LeetCode & Job Prep
I’ve been doing LeetCode daily with one goal in mind:
Get a job.
Now, whether or not I succeed in that… totally depends on how honest I’ve been with my preparation.
What does that mean?
It’s not just about solving problems to tick a box.
It’s about:
- Actually learning the concept
- Understanding the techniques
- Breaking down the approach
- Noticing the small things that help you really solve the problem
But if, during this whole process, I just get lazy…
If I start copy-pasting code, or watch a video and tell myself "yeah yeah, I got it" (when I really didn’t)…
That’s dishonesty in the work I’m doing.
And that dishonesty shows up in the results.
🍲 Making Food — But Delicious
Another example — and I love this one — is cooking.
Sure, anyone can make food.
But making it delicious? That’s different.
If you skip steps just to get it done, or take some shortcut because you’re in a rush,
You might end up with something edible… but not something delicious.
There’s a kind of care, effort, and honesty required even in that.
🪞 Ask Yourself This
At the end of the day, if you’re chasing something and you really want to succeed…
Just ask yourself one question:
❓ “Was I honest?”
With my time?
With my effort?
With my intention?
You’ll know the answer — and deep down, you’ll also know what needs to change.
Thanks for reading. Stay honest. Stay consistent.
